“From the outside looking in, it’s hard to understand. From the inside looking out, it’s hard to explain.”
In 2016, I joined this team simply for the desire to have an outlet to do what I’ve loved since I was three – dance. Now that I’m a fourth year WRC veteran, captain and Pro Bowl cheerleader, I realize that this opportunity is so much larger than myself. Being a Redskins Cheerleader comes with an impactful platform. We are women who are educated, work full-time, and have families. We volunteer in our community and just so happen to also cheer on the sidelines for the best team in the NFL! We continuously show society that we don’t have to be one thing, we don’t have to choose one thing and we don’t have to be this OR that. We are multidimensional and we choose to live a life that reflects that.
I’ve been living “two lives” since I was young. I’ve always been a student and athlete. But now, I am a full time Software Engineer and Washington Redskins Cheerleader. I cheer with the hopes of one day some young girl seeing me on the sidelines is looking up at my journey and her realizing that she can be whoever she wants to be and can own it! I cheer with the hopes of this young girl walking unapologetically in the path of her aspirations, despite the hardships and societal kickback. Our impact reaches far beyond FedExField.
Thank you NFL, the Washington Redskins, and my fearless directors S & J for allowing me to be a vessel to live my dream.
